Early on, an advisor gave us obvious advice. Manufacture in China, he said, and the costs would drop while the margins would climb. We listened politely, and then we said no. For us, made in India is not a marketing line. It is the entire point of the brand.
Here is why we refused that path, and why made in India still guides every decision we take.
What China would have cost us
Cheaper production looks smart on a spreadsheet. Yet it would cut out the very people we exist to support. Our Rajasthani artisans would lose the work, and their craft would fade a little further each year.
Once a skill disappears from a family, it rarely returns. That risk was simply not worth a better margin.
Why made in India matters here
Each handmade piece keeps a real skill alive. It also keeps a family employed, paid fairly, and proud of their work. Because of that, made in India means genuine livelihoods, not just a sticker on a box.
It also means honesty with you. When we say a piece is handcrafted in Rajasthan, that is exactly where it was made.
The trade-off we happily accept
We earn less per piece this way, and we are completely at peace with it. Slow, honest growth beats fast, hollow scale. India’s artisan sector supports millions of families, as the Ministry of Culture notes.
Every order you place quietly backs that choice. Explore our handcrafted collection, or read why we started Premloom.
