A truly handmade piece is shaped by human hands, not a machine line. An artisan carves, paints, or moulds each one. Because of that, every piece carries small, natural variations.
Those tiny differences are not flaws. They are proof of a real person at work.
Look for gentle imperfections
Machines make things identical. Hands do not. Look closely, and a handmade piece shows slight shifts in a brushstroke or a curve.
If ten pieces look perfectly identical, they were likely mass-made. Character is the giveaway.
Feel the materials
Real craft uses honest materials. Brass, wood, and clay feel solid and warm in the hand. Cheap decor often feels light, hollow, or plasticky.
Weight and texture tell you a lot before you even ask about the maker.
