Our Journey

Why We Refused to Move to China for Manufacturing

When we started out, a well-meaning advisor pushed a familiar idea. Move production to China, he said, and everything gets cheaper. We thought about it for about a minute. Then we chose handmade in India instead, and we have never looked back.

Here is why handmade in India is not a slogan for us, but the foundation of the whole brand.

The offer we turned down

On paper, overseas manufacturing looked tempting. It promised lower costs, faster output, and fatter margins. Yet the plan quietly erased the very people we exist for.

Our artisans would have lost the work, and a living tradition would have thinned a little more.

What handmade in India really means

For us, the phrase describes real hands and real homes. A carver in Rajasthan shapes the wood. A painter adds the colour. Because of that, handmade in India means fair work for skilled families, not just a cheaper price.

It also means honesty. When we name the maker and the region, we truly mean it.

The trade we happily accept

Yes, we earn less per piece this way, and we are completely fine with that. Slow, honest growth suits us better than hollow scale. India’s craft sector supports millions of families, as the Ministry of Culture notes.

Every order quietly backs that choice. Explore our handcrafted collection, or read why we started Premloom.
