Description
A peacock is mostly tail, and the tail is where the painting happens. On this piece it runs long and low behind the body, worked in green with the eye of each feather picked out separately.
The body is carved in wood and painted deep blue, with a gold crest and a collar of fine white dots. In Rajasthani decor the peacock stands for beauty and for the spiritual side of a home.
Because of the tail it wants a little more shelf depth than the elephants do. Give it space and it holds a whole corner.
Wipe with a dry or lightly damp cloth. Keep out of direct sun so the colours stay true.
