, Aparna C., Chennai (Product: Marble Elephant Idol)
This is a structural report. The Marble Elephant Idol has survived: a three-year-old who once tried to use it as a toy; a house move involving professional movers who I now know were less careful than they claimed; and two cats, Leo and Lakshmi, who have knocked everything else off every surface at least once.
The elephant has not fallen. Or if it has, it has not broken. It sits on a high shelf now, equidistant from cats and toddlers, looking serene and slightly smug.
The paint on the trunk and the howdah is entirely intact. The marble itself is undamaged. For an object that cost โน1,500, its structural durability is remarkable.
