About the Craft

The marble elephant is carved from natural stone with its trunk raised, the position associated with blessing in Vastu tradition. The peacock tealight holder is worked in metal with the intricate cutwork that turns a single tealight into a pattern of light across a wall. The Jharokha frame is carved in the shape of a Rajasthani haveli window. Three different workshops, three different materials, one coherent set.

Elephants belong in the north or northeast. Light belongs in the southeast, the direction of the fire element. The Jharokha, as a symbolic window, is traditionally placed where it opens a wall that has none.
