Craft & Material

Kadamb Wood Hand-Carving

Material: Seasoned Kadamb Wood

Technique: Hand-carved, lac-turned & hand-painted in Rajasthan

The Craft Story

Kadamb is the traditional wood of Rajasthani figurine carvers. Light, fine-grained, and receptive to the lac-turning technique. Each piece is carved from a single block, shaped on a manual lathe, then painted by hand using natural pigments mixed on-site.

Description

The nazar has travelled further than almost any other charm โ€” Turkey, Greece, Iran, and for a long time now, India. Hang it where people come and go, and let it do its work.

About the Craft

Assembled by hand in Rajasthan from moulded blue-and-white nazar beads, strung on a cord with a cluster of small bells at the base. The central eye is the largest, with smaller eyes ringing it and the bells hanging below so the piece speaks a little when the door opens.

Where to Hang It

The main door, a window, a balcony, or over a child’s cot. In Vastu the entrance is where protective charms are traditionally placed, since it is the threshold between the street and the home.

Perfect For

  • Front doors, balconies and windows
  • Housewarming and new-shop-opening gifts
  • Cars and workspaces
  • Anyone starting something new

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the evil eye for?
It is a protective charm, believed across many cultures to absorb envious or ill-wishing attention before it reaches the household.

Can it hang outdoors?
Under a covered porch or balcony, yes. Direct sun and rain will fade it over time.

How do I clean it?
Wipe with a dry cloth.

Stone Carving & Kadamb Wood Craft

Handcrafted in Rajasthan, Rajasthan

Material

Kadamb wood (Neolamarckia cadamba), white marble, natural colours

The craft: Spiritual and Vastu pieces are carved with proportions rooted in traditional iconography. Kadamb wood is considered auspicious throughout Rajasthan and is used specifically for sacred objects. Each piece is finished with natural mineral colours and hand-applied lacquer.

The People Behind It

Our spiritual craftsmen work in close consultation with local Vastu scholars to ensure proportional correctness. The craft is meditative โ€” pieces are made in near-silence, with care for the intention behind each form. The result holds energy that a factory piece simply cannot replicate.
