Kadamb Wood Hand-Carving

Material: Seasoned Kadamb Wood

Technique: Hand-carved, lac-turned & hand-painted in Rajasthan

The Craft Story

Kadamb is the traditional wood of Rajasthani figurine carvers. Light, fine-grained, and receptive to the lac-turning technique. Each piece is carved from a single block, shaped on a manual lathe, then painted by hand using natural pigments mixed on-site.

Description

There is something satisfying about a well-made box. The clean lines, the smooth lid, the click of a latch that holds firm. This wooden jewellery box keeps your favourite pieces safe, organised, and within reach, in a form that earns its place on any dressing table.

About the Craft

Crafted from quality wood by artisans in Rajasthan, this classic jewellery box is shaped and finished with clean lines and a warm wood tone that complements any interior palette. This box leads with form, the beauty of the wood itself, the quality of the joinery, and the practicality of the layout. The interior is compartmentalised for including earrings, rings, and necklaces. Simple, lasting, honest.

Vastu Tip

Place your jewellery box in the north or north-east area of your bedroom or dressing space. North is the direction of Kuber, the lord of wealth, storing valuables here supports their preservation and growth. A clean, well-organised dressing table in the north corner is one of the simplest Vastu practices for maintaining a sense of abundance in the home.

Why Premloom Envision?

You will find similar-looking decor in many online stores. Here is the difference: every Premloom piece is made by a named artisan family in Rajasthan. No factories, no resellers, no mass production. When you order, a real craftsperson goes to work. The slight variation in grain, colour, or finish is not a defect. It is the signature of handmade work. Your piece will never be identical to anyone else’s. That is what you are paying for.

The heritage you are gifting

This piece is handmade and hand-finished by the artisan families we work with. We are a curator of artisan-made dรฉcor, not a factory, so each one carries the small variations that come from real craft, made to be displayed and kept rather than mass-produced and forgotten.

Kadamb Wood Hand-Carving

Handcrafted in Rajasthan, Rajasthan

Material

Kadamb wood (Neolamarckia cadamba), natural lacquer

The craft: Kadamb wood is soft enough to carve in fine detail but durable enough to last generations. Artisans begin with a rough block, sketch the form in chalk, then work through progressively finer chisels over several hours โ€” sometimes days for complex pieces. The lacquer finish is applied by hand in multiple coats.

The People Behind It

Our core Kadamb wood carving families are based in the old city of Rajasthan, where this craft has been practised for over 500 years. Premloom works directly with 12+ artisan families โ€” no middlemen โ€” ensuring fair wages and complete creative freedom for the craftspeople behind every piece.
